Agreed! The biggest issue is to have people educated in the reality of this ! There are still so many in denial! Those are the ones that scare me! Stay informed, educated , and safe!

These findings, https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/70/wr/pdfs/mm7004e2-H.pdf (or, http://dx.doi.org/10.15585/mmwr.mm7004e2 ) are not gaining enough traction to effect CDC, NIH, or AAP policy, especially around children returning to school.

In particular, the NFL "observed SARS-CoV-2 transmission after <15 minutes of cumulative interaction, leading to a revised definition of a high-risk contact that evaluated mask use and ventilation in addition to duration and proximity of interaction."

This means the current definition of "close contact" ( > 15 minutes) used for contact tracing in most schools is wholly inadequate. The implications of this is that schools are likely increasing the spread of SARS-CoV-2, however, the current methodology of contact tracing will never capture this data. This unethical manipulation of data places every American at greater risk of contracting COVID, especially as the newer, more contagious strains move into wide circulation.

How can pressure be placed on the Biden administration to be proactive, rather than reactive, to the measures needed to successfully mitigate SARS-CoV-2 spread in schools? Sure, open schools now, but stop telling Americans that it's a safe thing to do (same can be said of indoor dining).

We should ALL be amazed that 2 vaccines with 95% effectiveness against Covid-!9 were developed and available in less than a year after the onset of the pandemic. That alone is a miracle and we would know that and celebrate it if truthful information was in the public domaine. Regrettably, we have been lied to and this issue has been politicized. Even worse, those in the scientific community that know have been silenced. Herd immunity (70-75%) must be achieved before any sense of normalcy can return. Current evidence seems to show that immunity from vaccination provides more effective immunity than does that from the actual viral infection. Early evidence also suggests that immunity from vaccination lasts at least 6 months. Dr. Abdul El-Sayed has the knowledge and the experience to guide us through the collective steps we must take to restrain and contain this virus. He must be be heard widely and repeatedly and supported by those of us who know and who care. Time to stand up!. A colleague of mine from U of M Medical School works at the CDC and did research on AIDS. During a virtual celebration of the 50 year celebration of graduation this last year, he told us that we would all be wearing masks and maintaining physical distancing into the fall of 2021. A collective effort to contain and restrain this virus is demanded. We could come out of this more united and with a hopeful view toward the future. Now is the time as too much wasted time has already passed.

I feel like education is an area that could be improved upon. I'm in Central Michigan with a fair amount of people who are anti mask, anti vax, and probably safe to say, anti government. The problem is the staff at our local District, they are all working on Covid already and are stretched thin from years of cuts to funding. How do we win the battle of the misinformation that is being spread?

Great information! We need clear messaging from CDC; something like after 70 percent of the population is inoculated and we know that the vaccines work for the new strains as well, only then can we start to slowly unmask in our pods and then increase our socializations. But, we need something like Fireside Chats once a month from CDC. The science is changing so fast and people need to be more open to understanding that what is known today may change in three or four weeks to reveal something different. We need this openness to pivot and change to succeed.
