These findings, https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/70/wr/pdfs/mm7004e2-H.pdf (or, http://dx.doi.org/10.15585/mmwr.mm7004e2 ) are not gaining enough traction to effect CDC, NIH, or AAP policy, especially around children returning to school.

In particular, the NFL "observed SARS-CoV-2 transmission after <15 minutes of cumulative interaction, leading to a revised definition of a high-risk contact that evaluated mask use and ventilation in addition to duration and proximity of interaction."

This means the current definition of "close contact" ( > 15 minutes) used for contact tracing in most schools is wholly inadequate. The implications of this is that schools are likely increasing the spread of SARS-CoV-2, however, the current methodology of contact tracing will never capture this data. This unethical manipulation of data places every American at greater risk of contracting COVID, especially as the newer, more contagious strains move into wide circulation.

How can pressure be placed on the Biden administration to be proactive, rather than reactive, to the measures needed to successfully mitigate SARS-CoV-2 spread in schools? Sure, open schools now, but stop telling Americans that it's a safe thing to do (same can be said of indoor dining).
