It’s rare for political rising stars to leave politics all at once. It’s even rarer for them to write books opening up about their struggle with mental illness that forced them to in the first place.
But our guest today, Jason Kander, did just that. A former Missouri Secretary of State was on the cusp of running for the Presidency when he decided to leave politics altogether. The PTSD he sustained while serving in Afghanistan forced him to take stock of what mattered most.
His brave new book Invisible Storm takes us into his mind and through his his battle with PTSD. He joined me to talk about it, what he learned, and what he thinks it’ll take for Democrats to win back voters in states like Missouri.
