I also think that what we have is worth fighting for.

1/6 was a fake attack. FBI was in on it, capitol police rolled out the red carpet for the “insurrection.”

Abdul, you’ve seen how our government destroys peaceful protests. You really think it would just allow people into capitol buildings???

Our democracy has already been lost. Look at how Blue Cross Boue Shield bought the Mi governor position. Look at how the Democrats stole two presidential primaries from Bernie.

This post was some weak shit. The right wingers are not the problem with our democracy. Corporations taking over the Democratic party is the problem. You should be our governor right now. We should have universal healthcare. But the 1% will never allow it. That’s how our democracy has been stolen.

Nick - I too am deeply frustrated with the state of things. But the entire point of my post today was to address *this* attitude. We can’t equate our frustrations with the holes the right wing and their agenda have widened in our democracy with democracy itself.

And the notion that 1/6 was an inside job is patently and provably false. We ignore the danger that proto-fascists pose to our democracy at our own peril.

Nick. I can feel your passion and concern in your reply. Our democracy is under attack. It’s fragility is evident given the numbers of people who believe that the election was stolen from Trump. I don’t accept your assertion that the FBI and the Capitol police were accomplices. One hundred and forty Capitol and Metropolitan Police were injured during the riot and 5 police subsequently died. I do agree with you that BCBS of Michigan unduly influenced the 2018 gubernatorial election. I also agree that corporate PAC money controls too many elected representatives. However, there is also political acceptance by a subset of those on the left that I call the SALT liberals. They favor up to an $80,000.00 tax deduction because of the benefit to them personally. We have lost perspective on what is best for all. Honest and open deliberation that produces a compromise for all seems to have been lost. Trump is a malignant megalomaniac who has gained too much support from those who think they should have had more success in their lives and have been denied by “others”. He creates blame, resentment, anger and vengeance on them. I do think that a detailed review of our tax code is desperately needed. The fact that a billionaire pays only ~6% in taxes speaks for itself. Net worth should be used as the basis for taxes due not earned annual income. I’m sure that Dr. El-Sayed has a comprehensive understanding. More of us need to listen and to consider the best reforms for all of us.
